Tom and Sam,
a little like Ripley.
From London,
with an idea.
This is one of my favourite photoshoots. They had come from London and were staying at my B&B. We had been in touch well in advance to plan everything. They both worked in advertising, and Tom knew very well what he wanted from the shoot.
The Amalfi Coast was in the middle of extraordinary heat. Even at night, with the windows open, it was difficult to sleep. We met fifteen minutes before sunrise, almost on their doorstep, and set off towards Atrani.
From London, with an idea.
A touch
of the sixties.
We did not get very far. The heat was already noticeable, and we stopped to photograph almost every few steps. They had watched Ripley on Netflix and arrived inspired by its atmosphere, with their own ideas and a carefully prepared look. I loved that.
I usually suggest light, comfortable clothes that feel at home on the coast: airy linen shirts and dresses in colours so rich they almost seem too bright. These stylish visitors from London had something different in mind. They deliberately dressed with a little of the sixties about them. I insisted we bring plenty of accessories; otherwise, we worked with the style they had chosen.
A touch of the sixties.
A film mood.
An indie spirit.
I think we managed to capture something of Ripley. But while editing, I kept having another thought: they could have been a very good contemporary British indie-rock band. There was something about the clothes and the photographs that gave me exactly that feeling.
For atmosphere and character, this was one of the best shoots I have done. I love these photographs, and the way their idea, their preparation and our morning walk came together.
A film mood. An indie spirit.
A place. A feeling.
A story that’s yours.
Tell me a little about yourself.
I’ll take care of the light, the places, and the quiet moments in between.
