Amalfi Carnival 2026: Three Days of Masks, Parades & Free Street Shows

Three Days of Color, Music, and Masks

Amalfi is throwing its doors wide open for Carnival 2026 — and it's going to be a spectacular three-day celebration. From February 15 to 17, the ancient Maritime Republic transforms into an open-air theater of circus acts, parades, and the best masked costumes you've ever seen 🎭

Three iconic locations — Piazza Duomo, Piazza della Bussola, and the historic Arsenale — will host a packed program of free events for the whole family.

The Full Program

Sunday, February 15 — The Grand Opening

Things kick off at 11:45 AM in Piazza della Bussola with Hiram Show in Circus Teste — a street theater performance that blends circus, music, and comedy. Expect magic tricks pulled from a mysterious suitcase, plenty of audience participation, and laughs for kids and adults alike.

Monday, February 16 — The Big Parade

At 3:30 PM in Piazza Duomo, the colorful dance groups from the legendary Gran Carnevale Maiorese arrive for the traditional carnival parade. These performers bring serious energy — think bright costumes, infectious rhythms, and pure joy. After the parade, stay for the mask competition and a hilarious show by La Baracca dei Buffoni.

Tuesday, February 17 — Martedì Grasso Finale

The grand finale moves to the Arsenale at 11:30 AM with "Ti conosco Mascherina" — a family-friendly theatrical journey through Italy's carnival traditions. Meet the legendary characters of Commedia dell'Arte: Arlecchino, Pulcinella, Colombina, and more. A perfect way to close out the festivities!

What You Need to Know

  • Admission: Free for all events
  • Where: Piazza Duomo, Piazza della Bussola, and Arsenale — all in central Amalfi
  • Who it's for: Everyone, especially families with children
  • Pro tip: Wear a costume or mask — it's part of the tradition! 🎉

Why This Carnival Is Special

What makes Amalfi's carnival stand out is how it complements the neighboring Gran Carnevale di Maiori rather than competing with it. The organizers carefully coordinated the programs so there's no overlap — meaning you can enjoy both celebrations without missing a thing.

The keyword this year? "Meraviglia"wonder. And that's exactly what they're promising: a celebration that reminds both locals and visitors to look at the world with a little bit of magic and imagination.
