Transport Strike This Friday: What Amalfi Coast Visitors Need to Know

If you're arriving on the Amalfi Coast this Friday, March 27, you might want to double-check your travel plans. Italy is having one of those national strike days, and some local transport will be affected.

What's Actually Happening

Friday's strike is mostly a big-city thing — Milan, Naples, Turin — but there's one detail that matters if you're using public transport here: EAV trains and buses will stop for four hours, from 7 PM to 11 PM.

EAV runs the Circumvesuviana trains (Sorrento-Naples route) and several local buses. If you're planning to catch a train back to Naples on Friday evening, check the schedule. During the strike window, which trains actually run depends on how many workers decide to skip work that day. The company says they'll post updates on their website.

Should You Worry?

Probably not much. The strike is only four hours, and it's in the evening. If you're staying on the coast and just exploring towns during the day, you won't notice anything.

Here's what won't be affected:

  • SITA buses along the coast (the main way to get between towns)
  • Ferries and hydrofoils
  • Taxis and private transfers
  • Your own rental car or scooter

The strike is about wages and working conditions — teachers and transport workers asking for pay increases after years of inflation. It happens a few times a year in Italy, usually with minimal actual disruption.

What to Do

If you're taking a train to or from Naples on Friday evening, have a backup plan. Book a private transfer, or just leave earlier in the day.

If you're already on the coast and staying put, you're golden. Grab dinner, watch the sunset, enjoy your Friday.

One last thing: this is normal here. Strikes sound dramatic, but they're usually more of an inconvenience than a crisis. The coast will still be beautiful, the restaurants will still be open, and your vacation will be fine.
