Every spring, Ravello does something that most Amalfi Coast visitors never hear about. The town organizes a costumed Via Crucis, a live reenactment of the Passion of Christ that winds through its historic streets. Not a tourist show. A local tradition that the whole community participates in.
Costume Fittings Begin February 23
The association Ravello in Scena announced that costume fittings and distribution start on Monday, February 23 at the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Lacco.
Here's the schedule:
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
- Tuesday and Saturday: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
They're asking participants to arrive on time. There are a lot of costumes to distribute and rehearsals to coordinate.
March 29: The Main Event
The Via Crucis takes place on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Dozens of locals dress in period costumes and walk through Ravello's center, reenacting the stations of the cross.
What makes this different from a theater production: the performers are all volunteers. Your neighbors, local shopkeepers, kids from the school. The whole town shows up, either in costume or watching from the streets.
Getting There
Ravello sits above Amalfi and is reachable by SITA bus or by car (paid parking available in the center). The Via Crucis typically starts in the late afternoon. No tickets, no reservations. Just walk in.
